Why Is It Illegal to Drive Barefoot In Texas?

Humans crave control.

We crave certainity, comfort and many other things. Whether you are like me and you just want to cross another thing off the list, or you feel in control binge watching Netflix, being in the weightroom, playing music or reading, we all want to be in control of our own destinies.

However, this is not what we get. We are humans, placed into and created for a chaotic world ruled by something much bigger than ourselves. Today, we witnessed one of the greatest tradgedies to befall human heritage in our lifetime. I was on the phone with my fiancé Storm, relentlessly explaining my confusion, sadness and feelings of loss for Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France.

This is just one of the many examples where we don’t have control of our lives, or what goes on around us, and this is just the way God created things. I believe one of the largest mistakes we make, is boxing up our feelings or thoughts about God and His plan for our lives and this world. We put God in two boxes: the things we do and the things we do not understand. Let’s visit this “do not understand” box for a moment. We put things like the trinity and the resurrection and general miracles in this box, yet we do not fully understand them, ultimately de-mystifying them and taking the wonder out of these incredible truths. When we box God, we lose the whimsy or the intrigue of everything special about Him.

To explain, have you ever thought what made up the other half of Jesus’ DNA? If Mary was one half, who was the other?

Or, if God could choose anytime to visit the Earth, why over 2,000 years ago? You might point to prophecies etc, but those prophecies only existed because God created it so, he could’ve chosen any time!

And lastly a personal favorite to ask people, did Adam and Eve have belly buttons?

Now, all of these are kind of a joke, kind of legit questions. Yet, none of them ever get asked?? Why is this? I don’t know, I guess thats why I am writing this. To bring the plane home, I suppose I will say, I think we often question what we do not know when it comes to God. Even though He has an ultimate purpose for our life, we disregard his will, and think we know what’s best for ourselves. You might be wondering what any of this has to do with the title, and I will tell you. In Texas there is an urban legend that it is illegal to drive barefoot. Why? The law enforcement does not want to kill your doorless Jeep vibe, or think your feet smell bad. They want to save your life. The “law” was put into place, because unknowingly, drivers would kick off their shoes and leave them in the floorboards of the driver’s side in the car. After driving awhile the shoes would jostle around, occasionally finding their way under the brake pedal. In case of emergency or even normal driving conditions, the driver would be unable to depress the brake causing a loss of control, and possibly a crash.

We never know what will happen next, so what is the point of fooling ourselves. We can only hope and pray and KNOW the God is our God, he is never changing and everything He has revealed to us or not, even though we may not understand it, has an eternal and powerful purpose.
